82% of men with an untreated Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm die from it.
The Cheshire and Merseyside Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme offers a free NHS screening test to men in the year they turn 65.
Our aim is to detect abdominal aortic anuerysms early, before they become lifethreatening. Screening is quick, painless, and carried out by trained screening technicians using ultrasound.
We work to reduce barriers to screening by providing clear information, offering reasonable adjustments where needed, and working with partners and local communities to ensure everyone has the oppurtunity to make an informed choice about attending their appointment.
Men registered with a GP are automatically invited for AAA screening in the year they turn 65. An invitation letter is sent with an appointment at a local screening clinic. If the appointment is not suitable, it can be rearranged by contacting the screening clinic.
If you are male and 65 or older and have not been screened, you can self-refer by contacting the Cheshire and Merseyside AAA Screening Programme.
