Flower Farm Volunteering
We grow carbon neutral, seasonal cut flowers in Tonyrefail.
We're looking for volunteers who would like to help out on the farm and improve their mental health and wellbeing.
We are open for volunteers:
Every Tuesday 10am-1pm
Regular Saturday sessions and evening sessions in the summer - keep an eye on our social media for details.
What is a Farm Volunteer?
A Farm Volunteer is someone who comes to the flower farm on a regular basis, helping out with growing flowers or with site maintenance.
What’s in it for you?
- Joining a friendly team who are passionate about the power of growing things on our mental wellbeing
- Growing beautiful flowers
- Spending time outside on our picturesque hillside farm, enjoying the views and wildlife
- Experiencing the mental wellbeing benefits of working outside and spending time in the natural world
- Meeting new people
- Be part of our aim to improve the mental wellbeing of Tonyrefail and beyond
What’s involved?
Tasks will vary depending on the time of year, but could include:
- Seed sowing
- Planting out plants into beds
- Weeding
- Creating new flower beds
- Mowing
- Cutting and conditioning flowers
- Managing the biodiversity of the site
There will also be plenty of opportunity for cups of tea, socialising and enjoying the birdsong and the view!
Who is the role suitable for?
- Adults over 18
- Anyone who wants to get outside and get their hands dirty!
- You don’t need any previous experience in growing things, just a willingness to learn new things.
- However, keen and experienced gardeners are very welcome – we would love to benefit from your passion and expertise.
- People who want to improve their mental health – we take a very broad view of what this could mean, you might have a diagnosis of a mental health issue, or you may just want to do something that improves your mood or provides an oasis from some of the cares of life. Just like our physical health, our mental health needs looking after!
Please get in touch if you would like to come along and find out more.
